Mental health is an essential part of our overall well-being. When children and youth are mentally well, they are more likely to experience a sense of purpose, belonging and community. They can develop strong and affirmed identities, build supportive relationships, enjoy life and manage everyday stresses and difficult situations. Research has also linked participation in high-quality social-emotional learning at school with improved emotional well-being and academic achievement.
Support for Your Child
Approximately one in five children and youth in Ontario experience a mental health challenge, and about 70% of mental health challenges begin during childhood or adolescence.
If you have concerns about your child鈥檚 mental health or well-being, please contact your child鈥檚 school principal. The principal can help connect your family with the appropriate mental health professionals and supports.
