Wednesday, September 2

In the morning, staff will participate in targeted training on cyber-safety, cyber-security and online privacy to address technology-related risks and ensure student safety.

In the afternoon, all 秀色直播 staff will participate in our annual Faith Day. This day provides all staff the opportunity to come together as a faith-filled community and focus on adult faith development. School administrators are tasked with facilitating a morning of team-building activities and exercises grounded in our Catholic faith, focusing on tangible and concrete connections to personal faith development.

Thursday, September 3, 2026

Staff will participate in a number of professional development sessions, including:

• Professional learning focused on consistent evaluation and assessment practices and supporting students鈥� transition to secondary school, including effective practices for developing positive learning habits.
• An overview of recently revised curriculum, including kindergarten.
• An introduction to the Supply Ontario鈥檚 vendor of record, the Edwin platform, which will provide provincewide access to digital, consistent, high-quality and curriculum-aligned learning resources.
• Learning activities to become familiar with the LUMI AI tool in the Virtual Learning Environment and the board鈥檚 approved AI tools, as well as how to effectively and safely use those tools with students
• Understanding the standards and required components of Individual Education Plans (IEPs), including student strengths and needs, accommodations, modifications and/or alternative expectations, instructional strategies and methods for reviewing student progress.

• Updates to final evaluation, including mandatory written exams, weightings and designated exam period timing, to support consistency in evaluation and assessment practices across courses and schools.
• Professional learning on attendance and participation, with an emphasis on understanding and applying the criteria for the determination of final grades related to attendance and participation.
• An overview of the policy requirements and implementation supports related to the new Financial Literacy Graduation Requirement and financial literacy learning across the curriculum.
• An introduction to the Supply Ontario鈥檚 vendor of record, the Edwin platform, which will provide provincewide access to digital, consistent, high-quality and curriculum-aligned learning resources.
• Learning activities to become familiar with the LUMI AI tool in the Virtual Learning Environment and the board鈥檚 approved AI tools, as well as how to effectively and safely use those tools with students.

The 秀色直播 (秀色直播) is pleased to announce its 2026 Top Scholars, the graduating students who had the highest average in their secondary school.

This year, the 秀色直播 is recognizing 19 outstanding students as Top Scholars, including four students who graduated with perfect 100 per cent averages:

• Sophie Leila Kaci graduated from Father Bressani Catholic High School in Woodbridge, Ont. She wants to make a positive impact on the world, and in September, she will enter the Life Sciences program at the University of Toronto.
• Victoria April Rinaldi also graduated from Father Bressani CHS. She will study in York University鈥檚 Kinesiology and Health Science program, and she hopes to attend dentistry or medical school in the future so she can help others.
• Kaitlyn Tran, who also graduated from Father Bressani CHS, will attend the Health Sciences program at Queen鈥檚 University. She loves science and hopes to be a doctor one day.
• Hong Yi (Eric) Wang graduated from St. Theresa of Lisieux CHS in Richmond Hill, and will attend Yale University, where he will major in both Computer Science and Economics. He hopes to combine his passion for computer science and entrepreneurship to build technology that has a meaningful impact on people鈥檚 lives.

鈥淐ongratulations to the 秀色直播鈥檚 Top Scholars and to all of our graduates,鈥� said Jennifer Sarna, 秀色直播 Interim Chief Executive Officer. 鈥淓very day, the 秀色直播鈥檚 staff have the privilege of working with incredible young people who want to use their God-given talents to make the world a better place. These students are wonderful examples of what is possible when a community comes together to support a child鈥檚 education.鈥�

秀色直播 Top Scholars are the students with the highest average at their secondary school, based on the average of their top six grade 12 courses.

Graduating from secondary school is a massive milestone in a young person’s life. In June, the 秀色直播 celebrated its newest alumni at graduation ceremonies throughout the board. The 秀色直播 is proud of all its graduating students and is excited to continue celebrating them throughout their life journeys.

Grade 11 and 12 students at Our Lady Queen of World Catholic Academy (OLQW) in Richmond Hill recently took part in a guest presentation about the science of alcohol impairment. The goal was to give them a practical application of their science lessons and to help keep them safe.

The presentation was given by Constable Sian Blythen of York Regional Police (YRP), who was a high school science teacher before joining the police force. She walked students through the chemistry and biology of how alcohol affects the human body. She also explained the physical signs of impairment and the tools police use to measure it.

Constable Blythen showed students how roadside Alcohol Screening Devices provide quick and accurate readings. She then explained how infrared sensors at the police station produce results that are reliable enough to be used in court.

This guest presentation was made possible by a partnership among the 秀色直播, the YRP and the York Region District School Board, which invites police officers into schools to lead fact-based safety lessons.

These presentations see YRP officers visit local schools to provide information on many topics. Elementary students can learn about bicycle safety or road safety, while secondary students can participate in sessions on careers in policing or the science of speeding. Every presentation supports topics that students are already studying in class. The goal is to give young people the information they need to make safe choices.

After the presentation, students could ask Constable Blythen anything they wanted. At OLQW, they asked about impaired driving laws, careers in policing and some of the interesting things police officers encounter on the job. These talks can help build positive relationships between students and police.

The visit was organized by OLQW Science Department Head Sarah Henson and Principal John Heinrich. Both are always looking for new ways to teach students and keep them safe.

In compliance with the Ministry of Education鈥檚 direction, paper copies of elementary final report cards will be sent home with students on Thursday, June 25, 2026.

Today, the 秀色直播 (秀色直播) announces the retirement of Director of Education John De Faveri, effective June 30, 2026.

John has had a long and distinguished career advocating for students, staff and families in three school boards across Ontario. He began his career with the 秀色直播 in 1979 as a teacher at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Elementary School in Woodbridge and went on to serve as a Vice-Principal, Principal and Superintendent. In 2006, John took on a role at the Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board as Superintendent of Secondary Schools. He then served as Director of Education for the Thunder Bay Catholic District School Board from 2007 until his first retirement in 2011. John was welcomed back to his 鈥渉ome鈥� at the 秀色直播 in 2024 to serve as Director of Education.

During this first retirement, John brought his leadership to the not-for-profit sector, where he chaired the Board of Directors of Georgina Trades Training, Inc. and held the position of President of the Aurora Cultural Centre Board.

Although John is retiring, he has generously agreed to continue sharing his wisdom and talents with the 秀色直播 as an advisor to Supervisor Carrie Kormos.

The entire 秀色直播 community thanks John for his dedicated work and leadership, which advanced publicly funded education across the province, and especially here at the 秀色直播. We wish him all the best in his retirement, where we know he will enjoy his time with his wife, children, sons-in-law and grandchildren.

As schools throughout Ontario celebrate graduation ceremonies, the 秀色直播 (秀色直播) is recognizing some of its outstanding graduates from previous years with the 2026 秀色直播 Distinguished Alumni Award.

Every year, this award celebrates how publicly-funded Catholic education helps young people to use their God-given talents to have successful lives and to contribute to their communities. Members of the public nominated the award winners for being examples of the Catholic School Graduate Expectations, for being inspirations to others and for integrating Catholic values into their daily lives.听

The 2026 Distinguished Alumni Award winners are featured on posters that are now on display in all 秀色直播 schools. During this graduation season, the example set by these individuals will inspire another generation of students to work hard and achieve their dreams.
